And meant it.

Tea with Arteer

TeawithArteer
Originally uploaded by fragilepeat

Neighbouring the garden of the fairies was a large gothic mansion. His goal was to reach the coast, then head south west until there was no more mainland. Then he would have to begin to island hop again, as he had done at the beginning of his journey.

As Ram wandered down the coastline he arrived at a beautiful house by the sea. A huge ship was anchored just off the coast.

From out of the house walked two visions. Samm and Julia greeted Ram warmly. Ram explained his journey to them and they seemed happy to listen. They described themselves as spending most of their time,
"Shopping and looking pretty," and they seemed genuninely glad to meet Ramalam.
"Here," Samm said digging around in her pockets, "Take this to wear," it may help you sneak past security bots and other hindrances in your path."
Unrolling the bundle, Ram saw an outfit designed for ninja. This would aid him greatly and prevent him from looking like what locals called a n00b.

Julia went into the house and returned with some linden dollars.
"It's not much, she said, "but perhaps it will help you find what you are looking for." She pressed $400 into Ramalam's hands.
"I can't take this," Ram said, "you are too kind."
"Take it," Julia replied, "It will help."
"I will use it wisely to help in my journey," Ram said placing the dollars in his pocket, "I will not waste them. Thank you so much."

"You are always welcome to come back here Ram," Julia said, "Keep a note of where this is and come visit!"

With hearty thanks Ram left the house confident he had met some of the nicest people in SL

The Return

Icefyre
Originally uploaded by fragilepeat

Profaniti crested the hill. Her jetpack blazing against the vivid blue sky. She touched down, her feet crunching against the green grass, bending blades down over the stony soil. She took a few more steps forward and then she saw the totem pole. It grew out of the ground as if part of it, colourful and bold. Huge painted eyes looked down on her as she reached the wigwam.

Before the totem pole sat a man with red hair floating down his back. He was dressed in black and sat cross legged.

Profaniti crept up behind him and leaned over his shoulder. A gentle smile grew on the man's pale face. She kissed him sweetly on the cheek. The smile grew even broader.

"Profaniti," he whispered.
"Ramalam," She replied and walked around to face him.
"Have you abandoned your quest?" She asked.
"No," Ram replied opening his eyes. They were as black as the night sky but she could tell he was focused on her. "I am merely resting here a while."
"You have been resting a long time Ram," She said, almost concerned, "Will you ever reach the places you said you would?"
"Someday I will, but without ceremony now I think," Ram looked up and the sky, the sun beating down on his pale skin.
"You haven't written in your blog," Profaniti said.
"No," Ramalam replied, "I'm not sure I will again."
"Isn't that one of your rules though?" Profaniti asked, "to keep a record?"
"For whom?" Ramalam replied, "I do not think anyone read it."

Blinking for a second Ramalam stood up only to find that Profaniti had disappeared. He looked about in vain but could not find her. Perhaps she had not been there at all and he had been speaking to himself.

#Over the hills and far away...

...he swears he will return one day#. Nightwish 'Over the Hills and Far away'

Profaniti laughed at Ramalam.
"Stop dancing like that, you look like an idiot," she said.
Ramalam stopped dancing.
"Now that you are at the Mainland, what is your path from here?" She asked as Ramalam sank his head to his chest. Ramalam's eyes, dark as night suddenly glimmered with a distant star's warmth.
"From here I intend to walk as straight as I can across the mainland, then when I reach the coast, head south west as far as I can on foot," He explained consulting the SecondLife Map.
"From the edge of the Mainland I will have to start island hopping again until I can reach The Future."
Profaniti nodded sagely.
"What will you do if you find another method of travel?" She asked.
"Should the opportunity arise I might take it," Ramalam replied scratching his pearl-coloured chin.
"So, which way do we go from here?" Profaniti asked.
"Let us climb to the top of the next hill and see what we can find!" Ramalam said, grabbing Profaniti by the hand and running for the hill.

Beyond the hill stood the land of Dathomir, dark, withered trees grew over the marshy landscape. Huge starships lay plunged into the landscape and a dark temple, broodying in it's malevolence lay through the forest.

Profaniti drew two weapons from her back-pack, both were dark and made a satisfying 'chick-chack' when loaded. Shotguns.

The pair snuck through the forest, careful not to alert anyone to their prescence and entered the dark temple. Inside were places for a sisterhood to sit and speak with one another but there were no signs of life. Counting themselves lucky Profaniti and Ramalam leapt over the fence into the neighbours place.

This was much brighter and Profaniti sat down next to the neighbours of the Sisterhood of Dathomir and asked them how things were living next to them. Apparently they were the best neighbours one could ask for.

Before Ramalam could progress he bid farewell to Profaniti, who was recalled to The Future for work. He hoped to see her again soon.

Over the next hill Ram found himself at the base of The Tallest Tower in Second Life. Unable to pass such an opportunity up he climbed to the top. Ramalam gaved down on all of Second Life and was content for a while. The fierce wind blowing in his bright red hair, the clouds echoing his pale face. He was soothed by it all. But he knew his quest was not over.

Close to the Tallest Tower stood a stone ring, upright with strange symbols upon it. A nearby information desk explained that this was a 'Stargate'. The StarGate network was a range of portals that could transport people instantly from one place to another.

"Such a wonder could help me in my quest," thought Ramalam, "But how would I know which gate to walk out of?"
Deciding he wished to know more, Ram set the portal for Stargate Command.

The disc whirled into life, stones shifting around the grey rim. Finally there was a burst of light and cosmic ether as the portal opened. A thin film of blue ether stood in the centre of the circle and Ramalam stepped through into the light.

The Mainland

The Coast of Mul and the vast land mass that is the mainland island between myself and The Future (my first destination) was hard to reach from the island of opportunity, I had to swim a great distance, without any aid from the nearby islands.

Eventually I surfaced at the coast

I climbed the hill a short way and found a meditation garden where I took my rest from this hard part of my journey. The sun shone down lazily, it's beams carressing the grass, making it sway as if in a hammock. I swam from shore to shore, exploring the delicate beauty of my surroundings.

I could see from my map that someone was over the nearby mountain range, so I climbed the mountain and looked down upon a Greek city.

This was the Land of Opportunity and it was graceful.

The mall was full of statues and information that explained much of art and history. Then, in the centre of the mall was an arena for paintball.

But what caught my eye was the great temple-like building to the west. I took the Swanboat tour around the islands to learn more.

Upon the swanboat, the swan spoke to me of the sights of the area. Then, behind the waterfall stood the oveseer of my journey, the Great Poseidon.

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v506/Whitesuit/Poseidon.jpg" border="0" alt="Poseidon" width"150" height="150">

I realised that perhaps I was like Odyssess before me, challenged by Poseidon across the waves, but I merely wish to find my way home, to wherever that may be.

I explored the casino and nightclub and was fortunate to meet my cousin,

Who gave me some warnings of my journey ahead.

"Beware the Goreans" he said. Ominous words and I had no ideas who they were. Joel presented to me a pamphlet on the Gorean way of life. They are certainly not someone I wish to meet. In all seriousness, do not become involved with these people.

I met the various dancers at the club and Joel tells me he is going to become a DJ at the club. I made a solemn promise that when my travels are over, I shall visit him again with my companions. Perhaps my celebratory party shall be held there.

But beyond the islands was a vast ocean, that stretched ever onwards until it reached the shores of the Mainland. My next stop would be the coast of Mul and the teeming mainland.

Dark City

After finally deciding on my first destination to be The Future, I continued to travel Westwards.

Near to the Frequency Deluxe was the grand shopping mall of Rio Salas City

But, being a pilgrim I carried no money so I explore the town instead. It would certainly be a lovely and quiet place to live. I could certainly see those who wished for a more domestic Secondlife settling down here in a treehouse or suburban village, raising children, going to the church on sundays, buying gifts from the city, drinking with friends in the bar.

I was met by my friend Art Laxness (whom I shall tell you more of later) and we had a quiet drink in one of the locals. A new French Nightclub was being built beside a Nightclib aboad a great steamboat.

But, after some hairy incidents, where myself and a newly made friend (whose name I forget now) were thrown into the air. I escaped to the nearby land of 'DEVIANT'.

I say escape, when what I mean is I fell in darkness. I fell for an age until I found myself in a desolate landscape. I looked about in the gloom for some sign of life, but I found none. It was at that moment I looked up and saw a grand city hovering above me in the darkness.

My sanity slipped and it was only the arrival of my friend Jackson Huszar, from The Future that saved me.

Perhaps I should explain. Jackson is from Mars, he is different from you and me in several ways which shall become apparent. We met gazing at one another through telescopes. Well, he SAYS his was a telescope but it looked more like a Deathray to me...

Jackson and I explored the ground, trying to find a way into the city. Eventually we climbed a mountain to the underside.

And, after much shouting up at the inhabitants of this twilight city eventually found our way in. The city was dark and dingy. We began to explore the back streets and found our way into a Gentleman's club. Three Ladies of the night were inside, one dancing around the pole upon the dancefloor, the other two drinkinga dn watching. We were strangers in a strange land.

We engaged them in conversation, but, being poor travellers they were not interested in our banter. As we left they asked us to pay, so we fled the scene as quickly as we could.

Around the corner, hovering above the street was a ghostly apparition. A floating witch glided towards us. Jackson had more courage than myself and asked her about the sights of the city. She directed us to a bar, but it was closed, so Jackson and I explored the sewers, hoping for a way out of this deviant place.

Eventually we found our way out and fled for the nearby haven of the island of Rhodes.

Which was a Paradise in comparison and a sight for our grit and filth filled eyes

There we rested and gathered our strength for our next adventure. We planned to explore the nearby islands and then head for the mainland.

Is there life on Mars?

I could tell that this place had fallen from the futuristic grace it had once.

Now, a saucer hovered ominously over Freqnecy Deluxe.

I moved closer, investigating strange green, bouncing creatures, then they sped towards me, perhaps alarmed at my presence!

But they were friendly. I had told Genevieve Lapointe that I would visit Furrnation and Hogwarts, but I had also told other friends that I would visit them in The Future. Both were huge diversions from my path, but I decided that didn't matter.

I chose to head westwards first, to at least visit the mainland and then make my way southwest to The Future. Then I would return to the mainland via a different route and journey northeast to Furrnation and Hogwarts castle. She was very friendly and gave me a cookie to eat while I stayed.

But, in speaking to her, I found her name was Stefanii Gorham, the owner and designer of Cyberkitten, the shop I was in.
"Wait," she said in a soft and kind voice, "this is not how I normally look."
I must have looked confused.
"Let me change back into my true form," she said and like a magical sorceress she transformed into a young woman with bright stars in her eyes and hair like the sun.

I told her of my quest and she was intregued and allowed me to stay and take some provisions for my journey. So I decided to look around the Cyberkitten shop.

The Cyberkitten shop stocked a wide variety of food and drink and also allowed people to carry and share food and drink, just as Stefanii had given me a cookie. Stefanii was clearly a comptent designer, friendly owner and kind soul.

Upstairs in Cyberkitten, I met a little girl, who wore robes that seemed familiar. Her uniform was black with a crest of four animals upon it; a lion, a raven, a snake and a badger. Genevieve Lapointe was a Hogwarts student.

Genevieve was happy to answer my questions. Hogwarts castle exists to the Northeast of Secondlife but is not open to visitors yet. Diagon alley, for all your Wizarding needs is of course always open. I was very excited about the prospect of looking around Hogwarts and Diagon alley, but when Genevieve showed me where it was it seemed so far out of my way.
"It's not on my route I'm afraid," I said looking forlorn.
"Make a detour!" She said with joyful enthusiasm.
"Maybe I could," I said smiling.
"Well look me up," Genevieve said, "Your quest sounds exciting! I can be found either at Hogwarts or Furnation."

With that, there was a blur of fur and purple and standing before me was Genevieve in another form.

It just seemed too disappointing not to visit such a landmark location, so I made a new rule for my SecondQuest.

Rule 6: I someone mentions a really cool place to go, make a detour to go there.

My detour to Hogwarts will take a lot of time however, so on your SecondQuest, think carefully.

I saw that Alhena also had fashion shops and the photographers studio I mentioned before. But my journey called and I made my way to the sea once more.

The beach of my next location was dark sand and an air of unease wafted across the dunes. I looked up at the next stop on my SecondQuest, the bleak desert of Frequency Deluxe...

Siren's Song...

The island was right to be called the Siren's Grotto, for it's song was so sweet as to tempt a pilgrim such as myself to stay.

The island was host to a myriad of people, each seeking the delights of this lovers paradise.

As I explored the idyllic landscape, as I wandered I realised that this was a private place for lovers. So it occurred to me to add another rule to what would become 'The Rules of SecondQuest'

Rule 5-Always ask permission to mention people in your journal.

I found much of the island to my liking, ID designs had created a perfect environment for me.

Winter had come to the centre of the island, like Alderia before it and the centre of the island, adorned with shops was covered in white snow.

From elsewhere on the island I had learned that the leader of this community was a person named 'Nymphetamine'. The name hung above the door of a Gothic mansion. Seeking the boon of this Nymphetamine to continue my journey, and earn my keep in this society (For I was quite taken with the place).

Inside the mansion, many dresses were for sale, for Ladies who had an eye for the Gothic. Also inside were many creatures of the night, who, despite their fragile existence did not seem to be wearing much. After trying to pluck up the courage to speak to them I left the seductive-looking nosferatu ladies to their shopping.

Breathing the crisp air outside I caught my breath and saw the Harley Davidson shop I had also seen advertised upon the island at the top of a nearby hill. I climbed the steps and looking inside, perhaps with a view to purchasing a vehicle for my journey. The choppers were expensive, but inside I met another traveller, named

Nataru Yoshiyuku

I exclaimed my admiration for the choppers, but Yoshiyuku-san merely shrugged.

"Heh," he said, "My bike is better."

He ran out of the store, keen to back up his claim. He drove up on this:

The bike was powerful, capable of stunts, flight and when I tried to ride it, it told me I was not cool enough to ride it. Yoshiyuku-san said he bought it at the Need4speed. I resolved to go there sometime.

Yoshiyuku-san was generous to me, giving me new clothes so that I would fit in more. I certainly looked more Gothic (but in the new sense of the word, I certainly wouldn't be an incubus among the succubi of Nymphetamine's mansion). Not all of the gifts were for me, Yoshiyuku-san gave me some for Profaniti as well, which was very kind.

I looked around the island more, and eventually found Nymphetamine's abode, a flying castle above the island, but no one was home sadly.

Despondent I walked the shore, but my depression was eased by the sight of a suitable place upon which to ponder my journey.

The place was dedicated to Neptune, a fitting King for the Siren's. Crossing the bride I climbed to the summit and meditated. I reckommend you all do the same and who knows what secrets might be revealed to you?

Spotting a boat, moored in the harbour, I knew my way was clear to visit my next destination on my quest. But I hesitated, the island was beautiful, and in my new clothes perhaps I could fit in here. There were certainly friendly, like minded people who came to the Grotto. I could fall in love here, as romance clinged to every rock and tree like the blanketing snow. Have I found my place so early in my quest?

But my quest called, I was married to the road, the sea and the horizon. There was so much more out there to see.

I payed my respects to Neptune to grant me safe passage upon the seas and left the Siren's Grotto for the horizon.

I've slept too long...

I awoke to find that I had slept in a chair for so long, autumn had turned to winter.

I began to explore more of Bronzetown. Being a Pilgrim I wanted to meet people and aid them. I examined some of the buildings, then I found a bar. I looked around but the place was empty. Sitting at the bar I waited for a drink. Looking around there were many images of muscular men on the walls. It seems I had stumbled into a Gaybar.

I heard a noise that was troubling, like a crackling coming from outside. I ran outside to find a fire atop a high building!

I rushed around trying to find a way in, even resorting to jumping on a floating broomstick nearby. But to no avail. I looked closer and could see no one inside, and the fire seemed to die out. I left the area and entered the shopping district of Alderia.

It sure is a Winter Wonderland.

The D&D Lab2 at the end of the street seemed very interesting. But again I found no one to serve me. There was free things on offer so I took my share and left the rest.

I then entered the insanity mall (see two pictures above, the building on the left). It is a strange place, home to many pursuits. I was not interested in the more coarse elements of it, but there was some intreging artwork...

(artwork remains the property of the owner and no copyright attempt is made by this image)

But also tattoo designs and other things for the alternative consumer.

Then, between the two buildings I found my first obstacle.

Here I tried to swim across the sea. But the Gods would not allow it, fearing for my safety. It was then I realised there must be some rules for this quest if I was ever going to succeed.

Here are some of them:
1. Walk wherever possible, only fly or teleport when there is no other option to travel on.
2. Be couteous in all that you do.
3. Document the journey, to share experiences, not to threaten property.
4. Travel only on the open landscapes, as I am unable to travel on private ones (perhaps if there is a sequel to ths quest this can be amended).

I arrived, coughing a spluttering upon an island paradise...

This was the Siren's Grotto.

It begins...

I climbed out of the water, dripping with the pixilated dropplets I looked back at the horizon...

I knew my Journey would begin from this point. I found myself in the Bronze City of Alderia, on the most southwestern point of Secondlife.

I looked about and saw a building covered in money, with many small pyramids of money lying on the floor. The building contained many boothes for recieving money for taking a survey, but I was not interested in money.

Suddenly a beeping and squeaking noise flew over my shoulder and I met my first companion on my journey:

I call him 'Squeak' and he followed me around the courtyard for a while before I sat down, weary from the sea journey and contemplated my new journey.

A jounrey across Secondlife.

It's a dangerous thing, stepping out your door...

You step into a road and if you don't keep your feet there is no telling where you might be swept off to. Bilbo Baggins.

Emaho!

If we haven't met yet, my name is Ramalam Ra. I now live a Secondlife. I own no money and no land. But I own something far more valuable. A sense of adventure. It is my quest to journey on land across Secondlife, meet and help people and get in adventures (you know, like Cain in Kung Fu). I hope we meet somewhere along the way.

I am seeking a mountain. I call it Escape, but one could easily call it 'Contentment' or 'The Promised Land'. In this sense my Secondlife is exactly the same as my real life. But with less chance of enlightenment.

Why am I making such a journey? Like I said, the sense of adventure and to meet people, help them, make friends and give them a postcard or something. I don't know if such a thing as been done before, if it has, awesome, but I've got to do it.

Why keep a blog?
To document the journey and so I can look back at my adventures. I can also show you some exciting places that people have made in Secondlife and cool people.
